Our hair is our most versatile and gorgeous accessory. We can experiment with it in many ways. A simple change of hairstyle can change your entire look. You can colour it to reflect your personality, cut it to enhance your features, straighten it, curl it and do innumerable things with your hair.
However, we often neglect our most awesome accessory. We complain of hair fall but rarely do anything about it. Our hair gets rough during the winters much like our skin and yet we don’t take special care of it during this season.
Our hair needs proper care throughout the year. Simply shampooing and conditioning is not enough. Here are some important haircare tips that you must follow for healthy hair all year wrong.
-
Use Hair Oil:
Your mother and your grandmother were right. Hair oil does make your hair better in texture and nourishes your scalp. It also works as a deep conditioning mask. Oil your hair, at least once every week. Try to use organic cold pressed oils for your hair. Warm it up in a bowl and apply it to your scalp with a cotton ball. Massage your scalp with your fingertips and leave the oil for an hour or overnight. Do this just before you go to bed for a good night’s sleep.
-
Use a hair mask:
If oiling is not your thing, go for hair masks. You can make these from ingredients you find in your kitchen or you can buy these from a store. Usually the brand of shampoo and conditioner you use offers a deep conditioning mask with the same ingredients. Try to stick to the same range of products. If you want to go for a homemade mask, you can use yoghurt, apply it to the length of your hair and leave it in for 15 to 20 minutes, before washing it off. It will leave your hair feeling soft.
-
Change your hair part from time to time:
You often begin to see a bald spot in your hairline if you have the same part for a long time. Every few months, change up your hair parting. Tie loose ponytails and buns and don’t use elastic bands that pull on your hair too much. They can cause breakage and hair thinning. Use claw clips, and scrunchies instead. If you can find them use silk pillow cases and hair ties. Silk doesn’t pull on your hair. It will also help with hair frizz and rough hair.
-
Don’t use heat:
While drying your hair after your wash, use your blow dryer on cold air instead of hot or just let it air dry. If you’re styling your hair with a straightener or curler always use a heat protectant spray or serum before using the tools.
-
Have a healthy diet:
Just like everything else, haircare is also all about having a healthy diet. A protein rich diet is essential for healthy hair. Eat lots of veggies, pulses and dal, if you’re a non-vegetarian incorporate fish in your diet. If you think you’re not getting the essential vitamins for your hair from your diet take supplements after consulting your doctor.
Our hair is literally our crowning glory and haircare is as important as skincare so take care of it the right way to keep is healthy and beautiful.
