One dilemma that every girl faces, every morning is, ‘what do I wear today’? We spend a major part of our mornings, staring at our overflowing closets and cursing it because we have nothing to wear. The amount of stuff we have in our closets is often overwhelming and is one of the key factors that why most of us find it difficult to choose an outfit. An easy solution to this daily problem is a Capsule Wardrobe.

What is a Capsule Wardrobe?

A capsule wardrobe is a limited collection of clothes made up of basic pieces. These are pieces that can be mixed and matched any way you like and be used to create an endless number of outfits. Having a limited number of clothes means your choice is limited, thereby making it easier for you to decide what to wear every morning.

If a capsule wardrobe is something that you just might need to make your life simpler, here’s a guide that will help you build yours.

Step 1: Clean out your closet– This is the first step to creating your capsule wardrobe. You need to empty your entire closet and begin from scratch. Remove every item in your closet and then decide which items you need. An easy way to do this is to see every item and ask yourself whether you have worn it in the last six months. If you haven’t, you have no use for that item. Things that don’t fit anymore or are too big can also be given up.

Step 2: Build on the basics – Basics are the foundation stone of your wardrobe. All your outfits revolve around your basics. Basics include, plain t-shirts in white, black and grey, a well-fitted blazer, a pair of fitted trousers, a good pair of jeans, an LBD and a blouse and top. For footwear you can choose a pair of close toed boots or pumps, a pair of sneakers and a pair of sandals in neutral colours.  You can have variations of these as per your dressing and personal style. These items can be mixed and matched easily and hence are called the foundation of your wardrobe.

Step 3: Invest in statement pieces– Having a capsule wardrobe does not mean you can’t follow trends. Invest in some statement pieces such as bags, accessories, shoes or even jackets. You can wear these pieces along with your basics and create new outfits or change a work outfit into a party outfit.

A capsule wardrobe will not only help you in minimising the time you spend deciding your outfits but it will also save you a lot of expense and ensure that you only spend your money on the most essential pieces.
