The one thing i like about travel is that you get to experience new things & meet interesting people. Once you land in a state, city or even a country, you feel like a different person altogether. When i was invited to Anant Rasa which is in Almora (Uttrakhand), i was thrilled because i have never been to that part of India. Though the journey sounded tiring, after seeing the photos of the resort online, i couldn’t say ‘No’!
Once we landed in Delhi, we caught an early morning train to Kathgodam. It takes about 6 hours to reach Kathgodam from New Delhi. From Kathgodam, we were picked by the friendly driver Jagat who took us on a long yet magical ride. It was almost a 4-5 hour drive to Almora but time flew by quickly – thanks to the breathtaking scenery that surrounded us throughout our journey up the hill. On our way to Almora, we waved to the friendly locals & even stopped a number of times to capture images.
Once we reached Anant Rasa, we were welcomed by the warm staff with a cup of the local drink. The one thing i noticed was that the air was so fresh unlike the polluted air in Mumbai. As soon as i stepped into the room, i went straight to the balcony. I was enchanted by the magnificent view of the Himalayan mountain range that was visible right outside my room. What more could one ask for! I stared at this beauty for way too long until i realised that i had to see rest of the property.
Anant rasa is surrounded by forests that consists of mostly oak & pine trees. It’s a resort that knows to co-exist with nature. We came across a number of unique flowers on our way up the hill. Some even had medicinal properties. The lovely owners Siddarth & Aditi took us around their mini-farm which consisted of various fruits & vegetables. Considering they strongly believe in farm to kitchen concept, almost all ingredients are grown in-house or sourced from the local farmers.
From Continental to Indian, we tried various cuisines at the hotel. I was quite surprised at how authentic their food was. A bread basket that consisted of the softest Croissants & donuts was served to us every morning. When asked about the bread, i was told that they even bake their bread in-house using organic ingredients. When it comes to Indian cuisines, my favourite dish was the Kachori. It was crispy & soft at the same time without being too oily.
Not just that, the owners also arranged lunch for us in the middle of the forest. It was so magical as we were surrounded by vibrant flowers & tall trees – a picturesque scene straight out of a fairytale. The warmth of the staff at Anant Rasa cannot be explained in words as they seemed to be like one of our long lost family. Every staff member was beyond courteous & catered to our need like it were their own.
Anant Rasa is a type of resort that cannot be reviewed or rated as every individual who goes there will have a different experience as it would be customized according to their needs. It’s almost a home away from home but it’s just that it’s 7000 ft above sea level with the most stunning view to wake up to & the friendliest people waiting to serve you!
