A number of you had asked me to do a hair routine post/video. I will be doing an updated one soon. This is a post on how to maintain & style wavy/curly hair.I have been using these tips & tricks since the time i knew to style my hair.
– There are different types of curly hair. Some people have loose curls others have tight curls & others have frizzy afro curls .
You need to know which category you fall in before you learn to style your hair. My hair is in the loose curls category.

Remember to deep condition your hair. Use natural products. I personally love using coconut oil, olive oil, castor oil etc . Deep condition your hair at least once in three days for smooth frizz – free curls.
– Do not comb your hair. Combing curly hair once it’s completely dry is one of the worst things you can do to your hair. Comb your hair when you’re in the shower. What i personally prefer doing is , combing my hair with my hands or using a wide tooth comb to separate any knots in my hair after i condition it.
-Remember that curly hair needs a lot of moisture. It’s extremely important to use products that help to smoothen your hair. Anti-humidity products work best for curly hair.
-Always carry a mini hair serum bottle in your bag when you travel. When the weather is too humid, curly hair tends to frizz up and you will end up looking like a furball .Apply the hair serum every 2-3 hrs to the ends of your hair.
-Curly haired girls can get shorter layers. Again it depends on the type of curls. If your’e between a 2A to a 3A you can get shorter layers (Refer HERE to know your curly hair type) .Whereas if your hair is between a 3B TO 4C , getting shorter layers might be an issue.
-Do not trust your hairstylist completely. A lot of you girls might have found their “Perfect” hairstylist but some of you may have not found one. Remember that curly haired girls can get shorter layers (Refer to the previous point) but a lot of stylists deny the same. I personally love shorter layers as it helps to add some volume at the crown area. It’s extremely important to know your own hair and trust your instincts before you get a haircut.
-The most important stage while styling curly hair is when it’s damp (70% dry). Apply the leave in conditoner and scrunch your hair. You can always twist your hair around your fingers to give your curls some definition .
-If you feel your hair’s too frizzy at the crown area, you can always blow dry only the top part of your hair to give it a neat look.
-If your hair is damp , apply some leave in conditoner and braid small section of the hair. Let it dry naturally for about 1-2 hrs and you’re ready to go!
You’re an artist & your hair is like clay .You have to give it a form when it’s damp, before it dries up completely and takes up an undesired shape.
Good luck girls!
